Sauna Host Job Description

About Us:

Driftwood Sauna is an established ocean-side neighbourhood sauna located at the New Pier in Spiddal, Co. Galway, offering a range of immersive sauna experiences (daytime & evening sauna sessions and a range of monthly special events) with a focus on building community and connection with nature. We opened our first sauna door in March 2022 and are proud to be one of the pioneers in bringing outdoor sauna experiences to Ireland. Our aim is give everyone opportunity to discover the power of deep heat through shared and enjoyable sauna experiences, designed to support mental fitness and overall wellbeing. We are most proud of the sauna community that has built up around us; clients from a wide demographic, who routinely return to Driftwood Sauna to relax and reset in good company and beautiful surroundings. Working with us means being part of a growing team that cares for the wellbeing of our community. Our focus is on quality in everything we do and to ensure each and every client feels seen and cared for.

 We are committed to growing a team of Sauna Hosts trained to perform their daily role competently whilst bringing their own personal flair to the role. Our Sauna Hosts will be fully trained through on-the-job training and professional courses and encouraged to bring their own experience and creativity to the role.

Sauna Host Responsibilities:

As Sauna Host you will be responsible for safely operating the site either alone or with another team member, keeping the saunas hot and plunge pools cool whilst ensuring each and every client leaves having had a truly enjoyable experience. You’ll be responsible for keeping our facilities clean for every session and you may need to complete some minor administrative tasks during your shift.

You have a friendly, calm and empathetic nature and are passionate about helping others. You have a curious mind and ability to problem-solve in challenging conditions. You enjoy spending time outdoors in all weathers, confident working alone (once training completed) or with others, in a hands-on environment, spending most of the time on your feet.

 Key Responsibilities:

 1. Set up of site facilities prior to opening and set down of facilities at close of day.

This includes (but not limited to) ensuring our facilities (Saunas, Plunge pools and Changing cabins) are clean and fires lit to ensure saunas are up to the correct temperature prior to the first sauna session. Ensuring saunas are cleaned, equipment securely stored away (includes heavy lifting) and all facilities locked after the last sauna session.

2. Welcoming clients at the start of their session and giving guidance on how to use our facilities safely

3. Engaging with clients during the sessions to ensure they are enjoying their session.

4. Answering emails/messages with regard to cancellations and rescheduling of sauna sessions

Essentials Skills & Experience (unless noted as desirable):

- Experience in a customer care role

- Experience in lone working as well as within a team

- Resilient nature

- Deep interest and/or experience in contrast therapy or other wellness practice

- Experience working outdoors (desirable)

- Fluent Irish speaker (desirable)

- Ability to carry out physical tasks (including heavy lifting) in an outdoor environment

- Excellent communication skills with strong customer focus

- Available to work full shifts (6-8 hours) on a flexible roster basis (minimum 12 hours per week) including days, evenings, weekends and some bank holidays

- Punctual and reliable with own dependable transport

- Ability to reliably commute and work at the site location (Spiddal) on any day of the week (including bank holidays), between 06:30am and 23:00pm

- Over 18 years old

- Right to work in Ireland full time without restrictions

Site location & facilities:

Driftwood Sauna is located at the New Pier in Spiddal, Co. Galway a 10 minute walk form the village facilities. The site is very exposed to the elements and whilst we have a small office space for shelter, you will be required to spend most of the time outside in all weathers, to greet and look after clients as well as the saunas throughout each sauna session. Parking is available on the road right outside the site.

Salary & Benefits:

- Salary range €14.15-€15.40 per hour

- Free sauna sessions

- Full training to allow you to compentently carry out your role

- Potential support for training in sauna practices & opportunity to lead guided sessions
